Chocolate Christmas Tree

Chocolate Rice Krispie Christmas Tree

DESCRIPTION

The Christmas countdown is on & the excitement is building!

This chocolate Christmas tree recipe is one that we have been making for years with my Mum. This lovely tradition of making it together before Christmas is now being passed down through the generations to my own kids. It’s really simple to make and it’s great to let the kids get involved in the making. The perfect start to the Christmas celebrations.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

  • Parchment paper

  • Ruler & pencil (or you could wing it!)

INGREDIENTS

300g good quality milk chocolate, plus some extra assembling

150g rice krispies

some icing sugar for dusting

METHOD

1. Lay out your parchment paper on a table. Mark crosses on the paper at regular intervals. You will need to draw about 9 crosses of different sizes. I started with 22cm, 20cm, 18cm, 16cm, 14cm, 12cm, 10cm, 8cm and lastly 6cm for the top. (See image of template example). If you want an extra large tree make the crosses as big as you want.

2. Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a pot of simmering water. Add the rice krispies and stir to thoroughly combine.

3. Using a teaspoon, spread the chocolate rice krispie mix, about 2 inches wide, on each cross template. Place carefully in the fridge or a cool place to set.

4. When all the layers are set, melt a little extra chocolate and place a blob in the middle of each cross. Layer the crosses from the biggest at the bottom to the smallest at the top, rotating each layer until you have a lovely Christmas tree shape.

5. Dust with some icing sugar for a snowy look.

NOTES:

  • Make sure you leave each layer to set completely until you try to assemble the chocolate Christmas tree as believe me there will be tears if it all starts to fall apart!
